Now more than ever, we all may be feeling the importance of having a space for movement, mindful breathing, and stretching. Some of us may be reaching for that familiar feeling of releasing stress and enjoying the moment on a yoga mat. Others may be beginning to explore the benefits of yoga and how to go about starting their own practice. Yoga can be a space for acknowledging, and possibly letting go of, any frustrations, stress or anger our bodies may be holding, especially right now where physical, sexual and romantic intimacy is met with many barriers. We invite you into this virtual yoga session, we will explore core elements of the Hatha yoga practice for well-being, such as yoga asanas (postures), pranayama (breath), meditation and relaxation. This is a gentle yoga practice, and all levels are welcome.
Feel free to have a folding chair, blankets/towels, pillows or anything else you wish to use for practice.
Meet our facilitator!
Annelize Machado is a holistic wellness practitioner. She shares the science and wisdom of Yoga & Ayurveda through community workshops/classes (Studio Kailash) and private, therapeutic sessions (Shakti Wellness). She is a native of India and spent much of her childhood in South Africa before moving to the US with her family.
Prior to immersing herself more fully into holistic wellness, she had a fulfilling career as a performance artist (alongside her yoga teaching). Her practice as a dancer grew from her questions of seeking comfort/understanding of identity through the body and its’ connection to land / home / memories/ self. Yoga has always been the foundation for explorations both personal and artistic. During her active career as a dancer/choreographer, Annelize was an allgo artist-in-residence in 2009. She is thankful for the opportunity to continue working with allgo and share wellness tools from these ancient practices.
This event is one of many this year around promoting the well being and vitality of QPOC communities in Austin, TX. For more information about this and other Health and Wellness events, send a message to wellness@allgo.org.
