Trans History: Trans & Gender Nonconforming Histories of Resilience and Brilliance
December 13 @ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
We invite our queer people of color community members to join us!
For trans and gender nonconforming (TGNC) people, our histories, our “transcestors,” and our folklore are filled with strength, beauty, radiance, and inspiration. We want to spend an evening reveling in those stories through remembering, recounting, and honoring trans history.
By situating TGNC folks in a legacy of social movements and cultural production, we can gain insight into the strengths of TGNC people past and present. Our current moment is contextualized by the fortitude demonstrated by generations of TGNC folks who have come before and can be instructive in determining how to
approach the future. This discussion will be rooted in traditions of TGNC healing and liberation.
The brilliant Mar K. Padilla will be facilitating this discussion. Mar Kidvai Padilla, M.S. Ed. came out as gender non-conforming at age 17. They have spent the subsequent 14 years working for freedom in a variety of roles including as a community organizer, domestic violence hotline operator, human trafficking researcher, elementary school teacher, HIV/HCV tester, harm reduction counselor and sexual health training manager. They believe trans justice is only possible in a decolonized world that centers Black liberation. Mar is also a current board member of allgo!
Light refreshments will be provided; feel free to bring something to share, though bringing something is not required.
Join us on Wednesday, December 13th, at 6PM for this community gathering for food and support.
This event is one of many this year around promoting the well being and vitality of QPOC communities in Austin, TX. For more information about this and other events, or to sign up for our mailing list, send a message to email@example.com
