Shame: The Ways We Hurt, Heal, and Find Peace
October 4 @ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
We invite our queer people of color community members to join us!
Throughout so many of our discussions and conversations, the topic of shame has repeatedly resurfaced. For many of us QPOC who live at so many intersections, shame can often manifest in different forms, faces, and fears. And this can seep through so many layers of our lives—relationships, health, bodies, etc.
So we want to take a moment to acknowledge and face the reality of shame in QPOC experiences. How do we define shame? Where does it come from? How are concepts of shame formed in society? How is shame directed at QPOC communities? How does shame show up in our lives in various settings? And how do we perpetuate stigma throughout our own communities?
Join us on Wednesday, October 4th, at 6PM for this conversation about the realities and manifestations of shame in the QPOC experience.
Our esteemed facilitator for this event will be the lovely Jose Juan Lara Jr., who has been involved with allgo since 2008 and was later appointed to the board as treasurer. Professionally, Jose Juan has been involved in the movement against gender violence since 1999 in Texas and has facilitated workshops at national, state, and local conferences on crisis intervention, systems advocacy for victims of family and sexual violence, and LGBTQ victims of interpersonal violence. Jose Juan is a project coordinator for the National Latin@ Network for Healthy Families and Communities, a project of Casa de Esperanza, a national institute on domestic violence focusing on Latin@ communities.
He is a delight and part of the lifeblood of allgo today. We are so lucky and excited to have him for this event!
This event is one of many this year around promoting the well being and vitality of QPOC communities in Austin, TX. For more information about this and other events, or to sign up for our mailing list, send a message to email@example.com
