This fall, at least five suicides among LGBT youth have been attributed to anti-gay bullying. The suicides have spawned a YouTube campaign called “It Gets Better,” aimed at assuring LGBT youth that life will get better as they get older. Please join us for this timely and important discussion.
Last month allgo facilitated a statewide conference call to discuss this issue and how it particularly affects LGBT people of color. We asked whether or not the “It Gets Better” Campaign, the primary media response to these suicides, really address the issues at hand. We also discussed what we can do to address wellness in our communities and how we can take action.
The Texas Gay Straight Alliance Network, a program of Out Youth, is a statewide program that unites school-based gay straight alliance (GSA) student clubs to one another through peer support, leadership development and training. The Texas GSA Network supports young people in starting, strengthening and sustaining GSAs.
