Multi-Tiered Cultural Arts Program

For over a decade allgo has successfully developed cutting-edge programming that engages community members on a number of issues through the arts. allgo’s Cultural Arts Program is committed to nurturing and exploring queer people of color aesthetics by providing resources and audiences for diverse artists while allowing our communities to experience art which reflects our experience and illuminates our struggles.

allgo’s Cultural Arts Program expanded as part of our transition into a statewide organization. Due to funding restrictions much of our arts programming has taken place in Central Texas. However, we are working hard to connect with allied organizations across Texas and leveraging funds available to create spaces where the arts are accessible and resonating to LGBT communities of color across the State, particularly in areas with scarce resources for such programming.

Our Cultural Arts Program is composed of:

  • Artist Residencies
  • Community Cultural Events
  • Workshops
  • Artist/Community Dialogues
  • Seminars, Cultural Production
  • Publishing and Visual Art Exhibits

Artists-In-Residence Program: nurtures established and emerging artists in their respective artistic processes by supporting the development and/or producing their work. Current Artists-in-Residence include Annelize Macado, Tim’m West, and Shay Youngblood.

Community Cultural Events: focused on affirming and celebrating various facets of our communities’ diverse cultural experiences and identities.  Such events include: Day of the Dead, Chile con Lengua, AfroCaribean Queer Womyn’s Night, Dia de la Raza, and When Fire & Rain Leave the Earth.

Workshops: provide various forms of artistic skills-building sessions that include creative writing, performance, playwriting, photography and painting. Workshops are conducted by Artists-In-Residence, guest artists, and community members through peer facilitated and lead workshops.

Artist / Community Dialogues: With Our Mouths Open is a community dialogue series created to actively engage community members around various topics.

Publishing and Visual Art Exhibits: Queer Codex an unapologetically sex-positive queer people of color project aimed at creating a non-censured space for LBGT voices. Now available at Resistencia Bookstore (1801-A South 1st Street) and BookWoman (5501 North Lamar Blvd).
